Here SHE is -wow-I couldn't have asked for a nicer FILLY. And she appears to be a dark Perlino!
Please excuse all the blood (she is also laying on a red towel). The placenta was delivered almost immediately and she's laying right next to it. We would normally jump right in and clean her up, but this was Llegadas 1st foal and she was kind of a nervous young mare. We wanted to give her a chance to bond before we interfered too much, so we quickly dried her face and back, took care of the urgent stuff-and then stood back a few minutes to let Llegada smell her "as-is" . She was a little hesitant to let her nurse, but with the help of my good friend Kristle, we were able to encourage Llegada to stand and relax. By the next day-she was one of the best mommy's ever;)
